Neck pain: Assessment matters
| Posted on 19 March, 2018 at 21:10 |
Due to our sedentary lifestyles that is spent either in front of a computer (8 hours a day at work); driving a car, sitting in front of a TV (We all love to veg out in front of the tv right?); and sleeping on incorrect pillows; we all experience neck pain at some stage. The longer we ignore neck pain, the worse it gets and the more damage it can do. Lucky for you Acupuncture is extremely effective, and I am very proficient in relieving that pain and can offer you a treatment plan that will change your life.
Treating neck pain is a large part of my clinic, and is an area I receive tremendous success. I put this down to:
- Listening to the patient through a thorough case history
- Watching the patient do very basic range of motion exercises so I can indentify areas of limitation in movement
- Understanding the anatomy of the neck and understanding which muscle groups control certain movements
- Knowing the red flags of damage and when to refer for more rigorous testing such as MRI
- Being able to perform specific testing to get a strong understanding on precise locations of pain, limitations of movement and where they originate, and if there is referral pain where is it going to, and coming from
- Acupuncture: both in the local area, and in distal areas of the body that relate to your condition
- Tuina: This is a Chinese massage that is really effective and great at relieving those knots
- Cupping: I use glass cups, as I feel these deliver superior results to plastic cups
- Herbal liniments and plasters: These are designed to promote blood flow, and relieve pain
- Stretching exercises and posture advice: I will show you how to best stretch your neck to relieve muscle tightness and promote greater range of motion; and advise you on posture to prevent further injury.

With my comprehensive approach and diligence in follow-up treatments, I am confident that I can help you live a pain free life.
